WELCOME TO SIPS 2024
Register for the online conference until June 12! On-site registration for the in-person conference is also still available.
The program is now available for the in-person meeting (June 10-12) and the online event (June 19-20)!
SIPS 2024 will be held from Monday, June 10th through Wednesday, June 12th in Nairobi, Kenya at the lovely Mövenpick Hotel & Residences in the heart of Nairobi. We are excited to gather in-person and online again next year! As part of the dynamic and inclusive experience that is now synonymous with SIPS, we will also offer an online post-event (on June 19-20, 2024) which will build on the outcomes of the meeting in Kenya. Proposers can submit for both the online and in-person events, or only one of these.
The aim of SIPS 2024 is bridge-building, as we search for ways to grow as a community by learning from researchers outside academia and who are not typically part of the current SIPS membership. This aim will be achieved through partnership with Busara, a research and advisory non-profit headquartered in Nairobi that does behavioral science in service of alleviating poverty.
As usual, the meeting will have a dynamic agenda of very brief presentations, hackathons, open discussions, workshops, social events, and more. Check out this introduction to the SIPS format if you are thinking about joining us for the first time!

Registration Policies
Registration for the meeting will be first-come, first-served for both in-person and virtual registrants. We will cap registration at 400 in-person attendees and 1,000 virtual attendees. Individuals may cancel their registration and receive a refund for any reason up to 30 days before the meeting (May 10, 2024). Registrants may also switch their attendance modality up to 30 days before the meeting, assuming spots remain available. Registrants must write to sips@improvingpsych.org to switch their modality. If spots remain available in the 30 days before the conference, new registrants will continue to be accepted. However, it will not be possible to switch from in-person to virtual attendance within 30 days of the meeting. Additionally, cancellations within 30 days of the meeting may only be refunded at 50%. Please contact sips@improvingpsych.org with any questions about these policies.
Hotel Block
A limited number of hotel rooms have been blocked at the conference hotel. See the where to stay page for more information. We recommend booking early.
Conference Funding
SIPS has made a limited number of funds available to support SIPS members to attend the SIPS 2024 Meeting. We offer:
1) Student and postdoc travel support ($400) – These awards support student and postdoc members of SIPS who don’t have access to other travel funds to attend the in-person meeting.
2) Diversity travel support ($400) – These awards support all members of SIPS (whether student, postdoc, or career-level) who don’t have access to other travel funds to attend the in-person meeting. The awards are intended to increase the conference’s diversity and to promote greater inclusion of underrepresented groups in the in-person meeting, including individuals who work outside the United States, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, or Oceania, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with disabilities, and first-generation college students.
3) Caregiving support ($300) – These awards support individuals who have financial need for childcare or other caregiving support to be able to attend the SIPS meeting. Awards apply to both in-person and remote attendees.
4) Internet/technology funds ($50) – These awards support individuals who have financial need for internet access to attend the meeting remotely.
You may apply for all funding opportunities that are relevant to you. To apply, please fill out this form by February 7, 2024. Awards will be made based on a lottery to applicants who meet the qualifications. For travel funds, should you win multiple awards, you will only be awarded one to accommodate as many applicants as possible.
If you are not yet a member of SIPS, you can join here: improvingpsych.org/join. Membership dues waivers and discounts are available.
In general, invited speakers must pay for their own travel. However, invited speakers can request funding when there is a compelling rationale for doing so. The EC will evaluate each request on a case-by-case basis.
Requests for letters or documents
If you need to request a support letter from SIPS, or a specific type of conference invoice/receipt, please fill out this form with your information. Once your support letter and/or invoice/receipt is ready, we will be in touch. For questions, please email sips@improvingpsych.org.
